Press kit
Lidquid, for journalists
in one paragraph
Lidquid pays people to put a removable QR sticker for a brand they approve on the back of their laptop. Strangers in cafés, libraries and coworking spaces scan it out of curiosity, the brand pays per verified scan, and the laptop owner earns a share. There's no posting and no follower count. Lidquid is in pilot: 50 laptops, one city at a time, with cities opening in order of waitlist demand.
Key facts
| What | A marketplace that rents laptop-lid ad space to brands, paid per verified QR scan |
| Who it's for | Students, remote workers and café regulars (owners); local businesses, apps and consumer brands (advertisers) |
| Status | Pre-launch pilot: 50 laptops, one city at a time. No earnings figures published yet. |
| Cost to owners | Free. Owners never pay Lidquid anything. |
| How owners are paid | Per verified scan, at a rate set by the brand and approved by the owner before the sticker ships |
| Verified scan | A real person on a real phone scanning a sticker for the first time; repeat-device scans, self-scans and bots are excluded |
| Sticker | Removable vinyl made for laptop lids; peels off without residue |

Story angles we can help with
- The laptop as a billboard. After Brand My Mac auctioned sticker spots on a MacBook in August 2026, Lidquid is trying the idea for people without an audience.
- Car wraps, shrunk to a laptop. What changes when the ad travels to cafés instead of highways, and how paying per verified scan differs from paying per mile.
- Side-hustle scams. How "get paid to advertise" offers get copied by fake-cheque scams, and the red flags (see our scams guide).
- Honest passive income. Which "passive" ideas really are, and which are small jobs in disguise.
